Do you need a PhD or heavy math to become an AI engineer? No. If you can already code, the AI layer is just a set of learnable skills on top of what you have: calling model APIs properly, prompt engineering, structured outputs, using vector databases, and designing systems with agent orchestration, evaluations, and observability so you can see what's actually happening.
It's engineering, not research, and it's relatively easy to pick up with the right path. That's why people are getting hired for hundreds of thousands a year to do it.
